ALADDIN JUNIOR
11th - 14th June 2025
Lossie Town Hall

As Elgin Town Hall was to close for refurbishment earlier in the year, we found it necessary to split St Giles Theatre Group into Senior and Junior companies. For the Junior Company we chose to perform Disney's Aladdin Jr.
Based on the 2014 Broadway and West End show about the "diamond in the rough" street rat - the titular character Aladdin learns that his true worth lies deep within. Wanting to earn the respect of the princess, Jasmine, Aladdin embarks on an adventure that will test his will and his moral character.
The younger members of our group have been working since last October to provide a performance up to our usual standard.
We look forward to performing for you.

CREATING
"THE GREATEST SHOW"
When creating the script, Creative Director Emma Sharpe was inspired by the stories that theatres, and in this case - abandoned theatres, hold. The magic that can be found within them, the history they can hold.
This was the basis for the whole show, from the set, characters intentions, costumes and more, everything is rooted in the past being discovered and explored.
Early on in the production, we are introduced to the rivalry between our aspiring theatre kids, and the mysterious shadows.
Heading up these rival teams are Aria and Skye.
Due to the original nature of the production, the cast got to have a large say in their characters decisions and development. This made rehearsals particularly exciting and collaborative for everyone involved.

Whilst exploring characters, we absolutely cannot forget to shout out our Principal - Helen Alexandra Dunn. Whilst not a shadow or aspiring theatre kid herself, she absolutely has a flair for the dramatics, and yearns for the stage just as much as either group does!
She is the true embodiment of once a theatre kid, always a
theatre kid!
MEET OUR CREATIVES
Now to find out who's behind these characters, music, costumes and more, and to discover what motivates them and their creative decisions.
The creative team are responsible for the direction, music, set, costumes and basically everything you see on stage - the whole vision and aesthetic.
As well as these usual jobs, the team this year were challenged by the task of developing Emma's script in the show you see before you today.
WE WOULD BE NOTHING WITHOUT VOLUNTEERS
St Giles Theatre Group is entirely volunteer led and run, where everyone's sole focus is ensuring and maintaining that the youth of moray continue to have access to these sorts of experiences.
Over of the course of this year, spanning September to April, we have had 80 volunteers give up well over 500 hours of their time to ensure the young people you see on stage are safe, looked after, and perhaps most importantly... having a great time!
"For me, St Giles isn't
just a theatre group...
it's a family."
Everyone will have their own specific reasons for volunteering, but we think Sharon (Welfare Lead) put it perfectly...

37 YEARS OF VOLUNTEERING PAYS OFF...
In November 2025 we were incredibly privileged to be awarded the Kings Award for Voluntary Service, which is the highest award to be given to groups like ours.
It is an incredible achievement for our group, and only made possible by all of our volunteers over the last 37 years.
The award goes to all volunteers, past, present and future, as a recognition of the hard and quality work devoted to the youth.

Do you want to support what we do?

Become a Friend of St Giles and help us ensure we can keep Creating Theatre & Making Memories. It's more than a donation - it’s a ticket to the heart of the arts in Moray.
Annual donations will go towards rehearsal and performance spaces, costumes, set, props and more. All supporting the needs of our production whilst keeping it accessible for the performers.

COMPANY OF THE GREATEST SHOW
ST GILES THEATRE GROUP 2026
And finally, a moment from our sponsors
Similarly to our volunteers, we also couldn't do this without support from local businesses.
Take a moment to see who supported The Greatest Show, and show them some love - support them back!
