Our History
From overture to encore, we’ve been making a song and dance of it for decades - here’s the highlights from our history.

Our First ever Production!
1989
Our story began with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. As the first ever show performed by St Giles Theatre Group, it set the stage for the decades of musical theatre to follow...
New venue, who dis?
1998
In our first ten years, St Giles Theatre Group grew tremendously - so much so that we outgrew our original home and made the exciting move to Elgin Town Hall from St Giles Church. With a new production team in place, we stepped into our second decade filled with optimism and eager to explore the possibilities ahead.
Revisiting the Streets: West Side Story Returns
2004
We brought West Side Story back for its second outing, originally performed in 1995. It became the first non Joseph production to earn a return to the St Giles stage. Little did we know it would make its third return in 11 years time!
Joseph puts his coat on yet again
2005
Joseph came back again, more vibrant than ever, making it the first show to reach three productions in our history. A true crowd-pleaser and a cast favourite.
Guess who's back...
2012
Our favourite dreamer is back again. Joseph returns for a 4th time. Its music, characters, and energy had stood the test of time - and so had our love for it.
25 years and counting!
2013
We marked a major milestone with 25 Years and Counting, our first revue style production, celebrating the past, present and future of our group’s creative journey.
Still Technicolor, Still Thrilling
2018
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat returned for its fifth run, becoming our most frequently performed show to date - a true legacy piece for St Giles. Who knows when we'll next see it on stage...
The Year the Spotlight Dimmed
2020
For the first time in our history, the curtain stayed down as the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to cancel Shrek the Musical in 2020, and pause our work in 2021. Though the stage was silent, our passion for theatre never wavered - and we started planning for a spectacular return...
Beginners Call once again!
2022
We bounced back with What’s Up West End, a high-energy variety show full of musical theatre favourites. It marked a triumphant return and a celebration of everything we’d missed. It was also our second 'original' production!
Double the Drama, Double the Magic
2025
For the first time ever, we proudly staged two full productions in one year: Chicago: Teen Edition with the Senior Group’s electrifying jazz and drama, and Disney’s Aladdin Junior showcasing the Junior Group’s magical adventure. All of that whilst navigating two brand new venues!
Onto the next script...
Now
After an incredible year of growth and feeling safe with the newly confirmed knowledge that we can adapt, we’re gearing up for the next chapter - an original musical! The Greatest Show, coming to a stage near you in 2026!
